The latest versions of Lightroom (1.3.1 for example) and Camera Raw (4.3.1 etc) contain the essential guts of the fotokit sharpening and noise reduction tools built in. If you want to learn how to use them, go to http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/ click on "Photoshop Lightroom" and pick the title: "Using Sharpening and Noise Reduction controls" I never used earlier versions of sharpening in Camera Raw other than for preview purposes, and I almost never use noise reduction at all. The key to low noise is proper exposure. These tools for input sharpening are superb.
