I'm not sure what you mean, Ralf. I have only the past two years of photos on my in-box hard drive. The rest of my work is on external drives, CDs and DVDs. My Lightroom library has them all in the catalog and I can browse them any time I want, whether I have the volumes mounted or not. It marks folders that are offline in red in the Folder panel. Images that are off line are presented with a question mark in the Grid view. Click on the question mark and it puts up a location selector which includes the volume/path of the previous known location. If I go to the Develop module without mounting the volume, it tells me when the original is offline or missing. If I mount the volume, it opens the original to work on. What is missing?
