I don't know what the second photo is about.
It has to be some kind of mating behavior.
The egret sits as if on nest,
fluffs all kinds of feathers out,
and sticks it's beak straight up.
Quite odd.
It was able to separate every branch of those feathers,
and then fold them back up into it's tail.
