Asking that people don't discuss religion, politics, and taxation on a photography discussion list is a far cry from censorship. There are lots of places where certain subjects are inappropriate.
Stating that you will leave the group if folks don't want to discuss these things is closely akin to taking your ball and going home if the other kids don't play by your rules. When you say things like that you compromise yourself.
