Vulcans and other planes used to practice low-level flying over the Scout camp I went to as a child. It became commonplace during the week for the crews to wave back to us as they went past - I am sure some of them came round for a second go.
The lowest flyers of all were the RNAS Buccaneers. I can't find any film of their participation in the "Red Flag" exercises in Nevada, although I know it exists. If you can find it, it is possibly the best trans-sonic low-level flying you will ever see. > > From: John Francis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 2008/04/17 Thu PM 04:51:42 GMT > To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: OT - Vulcan Bomber for the airheads > > > I, too, saw Vulcans (amongst other things) at the Farnborough shows. > The most awesome-sounding Vulcan, which also showed up at Farnborough, > was the one used as the flying test bed for the Olympus Two engine. > That had the bomb bay doors removed and the extra engine mounted in > the centre of the aircraft. > > First the Vulcan made a long, slow pass running on the usual four > Olympus One engines.
