Other than the occasional 4x6 prints to give to friends, I mostly
print my pics on my Epson 800 or 1800 ink jet printers. I have been
happy with the results, but I just had an opposite result.
I was up in the GA mountains this past week visiting my mom and two
brothers. My younger brother is the FBO manager at the local
Blairsville Airport. He arrainged a flight for me in a 183 Skyhawk to
do some aerial photo's of the airport.
I shot raw and converted some to jpeg incamera to get prints for him
before I returned home. The prints were very nice and I was happy.
When I returned home on Sat I downloaded in LR and made a couple
prints, 8.5 x 11, and could not get the same snap as the lab prints.
So, I converted several to highest quality jpegs and put on a cd. I
had 8 x 12's made at the Costco lab. They are 500% better than the ink
jet prints, in every aspect. I have made comparisons before between
inkjet and lab prints and most of the time there was very little
difference. The lab prints would usually be slightly contrastier, but
not a significant difference.
Now, my question is, could the fact that I was shooting through tinted
windows in the plane make a big impact ? I did not see any color
degradation or saturation issues at all, nor sharpness.
If any of you have experience in shooting aerials lately in digital, I
would appreciate some feedback.
