If the lens is a variable-aperture zoom (say, for example, f4 at the
short end, f5.6 at the long end), it will always display the "short"
aperture on a Super Program. If you look at how the A series contacts
work, there's no way of sending different maximum apertures for the
lens, so the contacts are coded for best case.

On the plus side, it never seemed to affect the metering on my Super
Program. You just had to do a little bit of mental conversion with the
aperture shown in the viewfinder in program or Tv mode.

The later cameras use the digital data connection on the lens to get
the actual aperture out of the lens. No such brains in the Super
A/Program.
