I have had one for a good few years. Used it a lot on the MZ-S back in the film days. My lack of time to follow the hobby these days and also the type of photography I have done for the last couple of years mean it hasn't even been tried on the K10D or K20D yet, and maybe not event on the *istD...
Must get it out again. Anyway, I found it a fantastic lens, and AF was good on the MZ-S - as I found at the Duxford PDML meet. Very sharp but very heavy. Although I found it not significantly heavier than their (also superb) 70-200 F2.8 and the range was better for me at the time. There are a fair number of reviews here: http://www.photographyreview.com/cat/lenses/35mm-zoom/sigma/PRD_85165_3128crx.aspx I don't believe they have built an HSM version for Pentax yet, so bear that in mind. Very good. Solid as a rock. I like it a lot. To the point where I concider selling my other long lenses. Optically it beats the shit out of the Tamron adaptall 300/2,8 and the K-500/4,5. It is good fully open, and very good at f:5,6. I've used it with the Pentax 1,7x AF TC. That combo definately needs a bit stepping down. But at f:10 it only needs a minor contrast boost in PP to deliver. I'm really waiting for the new TC to come. The only point that I'm not confident in is the AF. Far to easy to easy to distract. And it tends to go in the wrong direction. But this could be me, or the body, or both (me and my body) I'm not used to AF and long glass, so I don't know what to expect. All this said. I've read a lot positive about the Sigma 100-300/4. Mostly from Canikon birders in Norway. I've seen very good pictures from it. Seems to perform very well with the matched TC. There is also a guy at pentaxforums who has both the Sigma and the DA* 300. According to him they are on par with each other. I find that hard to beleave. There is conflicting inforamtion about HSM on this lens. But it seems tha DA* 60-250 really needs to deliver to compete. 2008/4/27 AlunFoto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Hey Tim Ø, > > How's your new baby coming along? > > Jostein > > 2008/4/27 Paul Stenquist <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > > > The 300/4 will be available any day now. > > > -- > http://www.alunfoto.no/galleri/ > http://alunfoto.blogspot.com > -- MaritimTim -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
