Nope. Mechanical. It's a cast metal tab that's part of the zoom mechanism. It's screwed into an internal barrel and rides in a slot in a rotating outer sleeve (if I'm recalling this correctly). The screws that hold it in place can come out, or even be pulled out of their threads, and jam the zoom.
