More RAM should definitely help--and as cheap as RAM is nowadays, everyone doing photoshop should be able to afford enough (mine has its original 64mb + 3 x 256mb chips added by me). Big, fast harddrives have become amazingly affordable, too. Photoshop is still an arm and leg though.
