Ok, I see. "about:config" leads to a flag value for gfx.color_managment.enabled that can be set to "true". FF has to be restarted to take effect. However, some other weird things happened when this flag is set. (For one the window for writing messages with Gmail is now green....). I'll have to see what other things have changed.
I am not sure why this cannot be included in the "preferences" panels....
