Dear Spider,

I do hope you enjoyed your refreshing cool-down. I did
fear I'd left you in there too long, as you were lying
on your back with your legs curled up when I took you
out. Hoping you were not actually dead, I confess that
I did spend the time walking upstairs pondering how to
pose you in a lifelike manner if you were.

But dayum, you thawed out awfully quickly, didn't you?
When I tipped you out on the windowsill -- I thought the
direct sunlight would make it easier for me to focus --
you immediately showed every bit as much energy as when
I chased you around the ceiling a day or two ago! But
remember what I said about jumping onto the lens barrel?
Tut tut. Now if I'd had a film body loaded and ready
for macro when you did that, I would've tried to get a
picture of you _there_, but you jumped onto the only
camera I was actually ready to shoot, and that is just
plain unhelpful.

I noticed how you kept maneuvering away from the Flashy
Thing, making it difficult for me to keep you both in the
frame and adequately lit; and you certainly noticed that
convenient hole in the moulding faster than I did (I'm
glad you came back out).

I wasn't really finished yet when you escaped out the
window and down the front wall of my house, but I do
agree that despite the number of wee insects entering
my house via the gaps around the screens, you probably
will be more comfortable, and better fed, out there.

But if any of your kinfolk come visiting later, I _am_
going to have to insist that they spend some time modelling
for me. The flash only lasts for an instant, y'know.

                                        -- Your Host

PS: You did remember to take all of your belongings with
you when you left, right? You didn't leave, ah, an egg
case hidden in one of the cracks in my wall, I hope?
Because I'm really not so good with _baby_ spiders, not
since the time hundreds of them started parachuting down
on me in bed on a night when I had a high fever (and my
friends thought I was hallucinating when I described the
situation, because they didn't know that's what hatchlings
do (I think some people say "ballooning").) So an egg case
would not be a very good prize for me at all, and I hope
you didn't leave one.

(As noted in another message, the computer I had been
editing photos on appears to have cooked its hard drive,
so I edited this one one a machine with a dim screen that
has lots of dead pixels; I haven't seen it on a good
monitor yet and don't know whether to trust the levels.
And I really did have a devil of a time getting the
flash -- on an extension cable -- lined up while the
spider ran around. I know I saw DIY plans for an LED
ringlight somewhere recently; I should build one.)
