I haven't read the M8 article yet, but I do take issue with this point. I think the top end Olympuses are very much photographers' cameras. I suspect the same is true of the Nikons and Canons. I really like my M3 and M4-2, but I haven't used them for ages, and I think my Olympus E-1 is a much better camera than even my LX was, and there's no doubt that the LX was a photographers' camera.
