Poor example for this instance. Honda's CVCC engine has always performed better than the U.S. automobile emissions standards. Those "old" 95 Civics still meet the latest requirements with the greatest of ease. However, other cars might be better examples of what you say. Except for my 86 Firebird, which still passes emission tests with no problems.

And since the emissions standards are more restrictive in the US almost anybody in the US is being kinder to the environment than somebody in another part of the world. So the guy driving the late model Excursion or Suburban is putting out less than the guy driving a 95 Honda Civic.
