I wouldn't call it fast on my machine (P4 2.6, big 500GB Hitachi drive, only 1 GB ram) but that could have to do with a number of things, especially the default location for the cache (I haven't really customized the install at all, wasn't planning on using the Beta this intensively).
I'm in the market for a new machine, however, so that doesn't bother me much.
