Could be. It was discovered in 1841 (on Grandfather Mountain, in fact) 
by famed botanist Asa Gray. It's classified "G3", which means there are 
only between 21 and 100 occurrences worldwide. I suspect that 
information might be outdated because i recall hearing quite a bit lower 
number not long ago. (GFM does have several "G1" species which are known 
to exist in only 5 or fewer places worldwide.)
