Try uninstalling it, and see if Windows picks it back up. Right click "MY Computer"/ Properties/Hardware/Device Manager Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives (click the plus sign) Right click on the problem drive and then Uninstall. Restart the computer. If that doesn't do it, install a new one, they are chap enough these days.
