Technically this shot is just right, imho. Focus just where it should be. Background dark enough to lift the subject very nicely. Foreground pleasantly soft to minimise distraction. IOW, DOF is ideally placed, and the bokeh works. So why do you consider it crappy? - Disclose your bias! :-) Compositionally, it is a bit heavy to the left for my personal liking, but I see the merits of leaving a lot of space on the RH side too. It is certainly the kind of pic that could easily be hung on a wall. I like it a lot, Tim.
