I have read that the Pentax 18-250 lens is a rebranded Tamron lens, with the addition of a zoom lock. Did Pentax change anything besides the addition of the zoom lock?
On my last overseas trip I used a K100D with the kit Sigma 18-50 lens and an Olympus SP550UZ for the long shots and movies. The Oly worked ok and I think the long shots, such as gargoyles on Notre Dame, with it were generally ok, the biggest problem was in low light conditions when it often took a long time to lock on and the usually very good stabilisation didn't work too good. For my next trip I was thinking of getting a Pentax 18-250 for my K10. I have read a lot of good things about it, but have also read some reviews that make it sound like the distortion at the wide and long ends are noticeable, possibly more than that of the Oly. I have also read that because of the slowness, particularly at the long end, it can take a while to focus in low light. Could anyone tell me how the 18 mm shots with the 18-250 compare with those from the Pentax 18-55? I am trying to decide between using my 18-55 lens on the K10, which I know produces good results, and continue using the Oly for long shots, or getting the 18-250 and use the Oly only for video.
