This wasn't a mistake, it was the photographic gods way of helping to enrich the shot.
Just imagine what this would have looked like with a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the action. A slightly blurred background with an upside down person frozen in time. This way is more dynamic & interesting IMHO. It may have been a mistake, but it was a good one.
