I think my Venice book came out pretty well with Blurb. Hardcover, 10.5x8 (?), their mid-size. 40 pages or so.
Then I did a 20-page softcover 7x7 of photos from a family event. 20 pages. Quality was fine, no complaints there, but a 20-page softcover is just not a very substantial "package." For anything less than 40-60 pages I definitely recommend the hardcover version for gifts.
