Bob W. recently posted about his favourite camera bag/holster for biking. After some thinking I purchased a LowePro TopLoader (TLZ2), with harness, which I went on to test for a 50 km outing today. I tried to link to the product page at http://www.lowepro.com but got a server error. Must be a Friday Afternoon Syndrome.
Here's some quick observations: - The TLZ2 can easily accommodate the K20D + DA* 16-50/2.8 with hood attached. It will accommodate a K20D with a Sigma EX 70-200/2.8 too, if the hood is reversed. - A velcro alternative to the top zipper would have made it perfect. The zipper goes around on three sides, and can be fiddly to open when a shooting op presents itself. - The harness is fair enough for biking, but leaves the bag further down the chest than I like when biking. For walking it's great. - The TLZ2 could easily become too long for people of shorter stature than 180 cm (6 ft. to the imperialists). That is, the bottom of the bag will clash with your thighs when biking. The TLZ1 is smaller and may work well for all. My reason for choosing the TLZ2 over the TLZ1 was the option to accommodate a camera with eg. a 70-200/2.8 or (hopefully) the DA 60-250/4. A shorter harness may have solved the issue too, but probably with the bag up under your cheek. - The extra weight on the chest does something to my sitting position on the bike... But I guess my muscles will tell me more specifically about that tomorrow.
