Charles,

You remember a few years ago when a "V chip" to filter out violence and sex in
video and web content was being touted?

Well, it never came to pass. What =did= come to pass, without the press taking
any notice, is the "S chip".

The S chip has the User Stress Detector (USD). When the USD detects user
stress (a wedding shoot, for example) it uses top-secret algorithms to increase
the chances of a device failure. In effect, it applies Gumperson's Corollary
to Murphy's Law, to wit, "The probability of a given event is inversely
proportional to its desirability".

Pentax is a sophisticated, though conservative, company; so I am sure that
there is S chip technology in the 540 flash.

The Smegma flash, being much less sophisticated, just has a high rate of random
failures, independent of user stress. I can testify to this.
