well, according to that article garmins are the best in this respect
currently available, determining   altitude both from the atmospheric
pressure and satellites. and if it still can be off by more than 2,000
ft, i guess one just has to live with it. :-)

fwiw, it *was* very very cold and windy morning at the time it went haywire...
