so I'm a wreck in the Thames, am I? I saw the first programme, but
missed last night's. I'll catch it when it's repeated.

More archaeological news: 'they' are currently building new flats at
the end of my street, in a place which was formerly Lovell's Wharf and
Granite Wharf, and before that part of Greenwich Marsh. While digging
the foundations they have discovered what archaeologists believe is a
13th century tide mill. They're getting quite excited about it
(although I suspect the builders are none too pleased) because it was
thought that there was no industry in the area at the time, and tide
mills are quite rare from that period; in fact, almost nothing was
known about the area, it being a marsh in those days. No doubt it will
still be concreted over, but in my idealistic moments I fantasise that
they'll cancel the flats and turn it all into a wetland again for me
and the cormorants to enjoy.
