Similar thing happened at the Manx Senior this year. I think it was a  
'Zuki led off down Bray Hill, lunched it's bottom end throwing a rod  
through the cases, but the bugger was still making enough power ...  
spraying oil like a fire truck sprays water, and running hard enough  
that it oiled the entire road three-quarters of a mile. They had to  
red flag the race (already a day and an hour or two delayed due to  
rain and fog), clean up the road and restart another hour or so later,  
reducing the number of laps from 4 to 2.

The rider was only really aware of what had happened as the motor  
seized up, out of oil, at the end of that. Quite a mess ...
