Thanks for the comment, Ken. I know what you mean by the light. It bothers me also. Perhaps I can photoshop it out.
The problem was the placement of the lights and the platforms that separate sections of the staircase. I couldn't get all the steps in one flight of steps without including the light. Here are two other shots where I partially or totally avoided the light fixture, but other aspects of the images are not as pleasing to my eye.
