I'm really not fit at all. Fortunately, rail trails are flat, flat, flat. We got started around noon on Saturday, rode about 35 miles, and stopped to camp about an hour before sunset. We didn't get back on the trail until about 10am Sunday and finished it up around 2:30pm. So it wasn't exactly a feat of endurance.

Ah yes, we have a couple of rail trails in these parts. The one in Otago is apparently very good.

The last big epic I did was Molesworth which is an unsealed road through the country's biggest farm, which has since been purchased by the Government. 80 hilly km the first day, 120 the next. I was totally unprepared for what I was getting myself into and was completely and utterly shattered at the end. But what an experience :) It was a year or two before I got back on the MTB after that.
