Well, after 3 attempts at getting a Maxtor 4 lite to format on the ibook, i gave up. (My other two Maxtors worked/work well though.)
I bought a 160 Gig Seagate today, and it formatted fine, so the double back up is now on, and i can, hopefully, safely remove my oddles of photos and get some space back.
