Geeze, where have I been? Didn't even know there was PSE 7 coming out.
Anyway, sounds like maybe I only got half the truth. Good you pointed this
out. Yes, when you open E5 from Lightroom, you have to convert to 8 bit to
do any cloning, which is really the only thing I use E5 for now. I'm pretty
much sold on Lightroom. If E6 is the same, then there's really no point in
me upgrading.
Cheers, Christine

Hi Christine
That's interesting but I wonder if Elements 7 has the same limited 16
bit support that applied to Elements 6.
I downloaded the trial version of Elements 6 some time ago because Adobe
promoted the 16 bit editing features of the program. Unfortunately, 16
bit editing didn't apply if you wanted to use adjustment layers - to use
those you have to convert your image to 8 bit first. Much the same as
Photoshop 6 actually.
Without 16 bit adjustment layers, Elements 6 offered no real advantage
over the version of Photoshop that I already have.
I just checked the Adobe download site for the trial version of Elements
7 but it' not available until the end of October. When it's available
I'll give it a try (although it may not install on my computer as the
installer may detect that I had the Elements 6 trial installed
previously and spit the dummy).
