As far as I know, my Macintosh will not run .exe files without Windows and virtual OS space installed.

Apple called me a day or so after I sent you my original message and reported that it was not a problem with Aperture, as all other camera makers have the lens model in the "Lens Model" field of the EXIF. Pentax changed that in their camera's firmware for some reason, and of course provide users with software that takes that into account (I presume, as I cannot install it).

My take on this is - If standard EXIF format has a field for "Lens Model" as well as other lens information, and it was able to be read and viewed in most if not all of the image processing software available until a combination of new Pentax cameras (K20D) and firmware updates (K100D and K10D), then Pentax firmware engineers made an error. Time for them to get back to their terminals and rewrite the code!

As much as it would be of interest to me and the other Pentaxians with whom I communicate regularly (PDML List) as to why Pentax changed this formatting, I will accept just a notification that the problem has been fixed, and the firmware upgrades are available.

I know the data is complicated across camera and lens models, as attested by the incomplete attempt at translation by the folks at Queens College and their EXIFTool. If I had the time, and it was my job, I'd figure this out myself and write a tool to do the interpretation and relocation of Pentax EXIF Tags to other software programs.

Dear Mr McAllister,

Thank you for contacting Pentax.

Have you tried to go into the disk and run the .exe file? Normally this will cure this issue.

If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center at 800-877-0155.

I have spoken on two occasions with your tech support center about this problem, with a promise that they would get back to me when they got some answers from Pentax Japan. No one has called or written, yet. :-)

If you would like to participate in our new Pentax Survey, please call 1-800-350-3891.

I will participate when I have something to report in the way of progress.

Sincerely,

Your Email:
1. In late July and early August, my K100, K10 stopped
matching EXIF data fields with Apple Aperture, and apparently Lightroom as well. It has been impossible for me to find out whether Pentax firmware changes are causing this, or Aperture`s update to 2.x. Bottom line is, someone has to get together with someone and work this out.

2. Since upgrading to Mac OS 10.5.5, and trying to attack this EXIF
problem, I am unable to install ANY Pentax software that came with any of my digital cameras. The Installer gets to the blank window where data should show up allowing me to click the installation to begin. I`ve tried ACDSEE, Browser 3.5, to no avail. Any suggestions?
