OOPS.  I forgot to answer the second point.  In Australia, as in
Britain, a person most certainly ~is~ innocent until proven guilty.  I
can't imagine why you'd think otherwise (more unreliable sources
perhaps).  One episode of "Rumpole of the Bailey" would probably teach
you more about British law than a year of reading checkout tabloids.
