If it was a Letus (or similar) then the adapter actually takes the image from the lens and projects it onto a surface that the camera views - hence you don't lose a part of the image like you would if you used a (say) 35mm film lens on an APS-C body. Most professional use video cameras have 3 chips in either 1/3 inch, 1/2 inch, or 2/3 inch sizes.
