Subject: Australian photobook recommendation - Albumprinter

DaveS, Ann and Dario gave me the idea for a photobook of my nephew as Christmas pressies. I had been about to Blurb, but remembered Dave's "testimonial", so held back. I decided I'd like a local printer because I might want to do a few test runs.

Picked Asukabooks, but half way through laying out the book, I finally read the fine print, and realised, nup, not for non-pro plebs like me.

Finally picked
http://www.albumprinter.com.au/

Downloaded their software on a weekend, sent the file in on Monday, and received the book on Friday (today). Picked the 30x30cm album, with easy layout software (although they certainly can improve on some useability aspects). My comments

* B&W works fine - nicely neutral, with no ugly speckling (from both dig and 35mm scans)
* Spot on colour rendition
* Nice choice of bindings - I'm going to try a few more before settling on the pressie for my sister
* Excellent delivery lead times
* Their range of formats are a bit limited, but who cares - the 30x30cm layout is fine. Plus, it closely resembles the ideal image format I have embedded in my mind from ye olde Pink Floyd LP days.

Two thumbs up recommendation
