Cosina seems to make a nice profit selling cameras like the Voigtlander
VSL43 <http://www.mpex.com/browse.cfm/4,11241.htm>. I doubt they make a
lot of after market lens sales on that body. In fact the only reason I
can see to buy on is if you have a supply of used K mount lenses and
don't trust the used market.for cameras. (Personally I'd look for a
nice lightly used MX, but hey I'm a traditionalist).

That last sentence is probably the biggest argument against any such thing
(just as in the case of the putative M42 DSLR in the title of this thread).
If the body isn't going to lead to additional sales of lenses (which are
usually significantly more profitable than the body) that means that the
way for the manufacturer to make money is by charging more for the body.
But the more the body costs the fewer people are likely to buy it.
