Speedferries, the last operator of a high-speed ferry service across the English channel has just gone into administration. Its only vessel, the catamaran "Speed One", had been under seizure in the French port of Boulogne-sur-Mer for two weeks because of a six-figure debt, mainly harbour fees, owed to the Boulogne Chamber of Commerce.
The vessel has now returned to the UK, all further crossings have been cancelled, and Speedferries will most probably be liquidated with a loss of around 200 jobs.
