That was a famous issue with the M8, was it not?  I suspect the hot filter
wasn't deep enough, and Leica's fix was to issue/sell supplementary hot
filters for lenses.  I suppose those don't always pass to the new owners
when cameras get resold.  The M8-2 doesn't require the extra filter IIRC.
