Yes, since the release of the K2000D, it was only a matter of time. 
Having two entry-level models in the line up doesn't make a lot of
sense.

That Pentax Japan page is quite interesting.  It has all of the product
catalogs for the models released since the *istD - it's interesting to
look at the product evolution over the last 5 years.

Like Peter, I'll avoid the Ricehigh link.  I used to read him for a
while just for amusement but I now find it's more fun to stick my head
in a bucket of water for several minutes.....
