Godfrey,

I agree with you that the volume of messages from Pentax is so far
not extremely large, but it is not an excuse. (see 4. below)

1. I did not sign up for any mailing effort.
I created a gallery login for which an e-mail address was required.

2. I did not send any requests for information (as they started
claiming in the footer that I quoted). This is a lie!

3. The latest e-mail is not "information about services" as it states in the
privacy policy, but rather ADVERTISEMENT of PRODUCTS.
When you create a login for your bank (utility, phone, etc.) account, -
it does not mean that they all subscribe you for multiple e-mail
lists. At the very least,- you can choose that in your profile.
It's not the case with Pentax Gallery.

4. I am against "opt-out" mailing lists. I am all for "opt-in".

5. In response to the popular "you can always delete it",
"you can unsubsribe":
My interests and activities (hobbies and professional) are very diverse.
If every vendor and every website I have to create a login for would
opt me in their mailing list(s), all I would be doing is to
unsubscribing and deleting messages. The problem with such messages
is that they can be legitimate, and hence the anti-spam filters usually
do not mark/filter out them as spam.

If you do not agree with 5. above, - please let me know and I would be
happy to sign up you for every mailing list that I will see around. :-)

I do not want to waste any more time on this subject.
I informed fellow PDML-ers about what Pentax does, which IMHO is a bad
business practice.

Cheers,

Igor

Let me get this straight:

- You signed up on their mailing Gallery effort, which included a
statement as to how they would use your information and not share it
with other vendors.

"Collected Information: How We Use It

We request and use only information that is absolutely essential to
respond to your requests for information on our products or services
and to inform you of services we think may be of interest to you. Our
site uses your IP address (an IP address identifies the type of
browser you are using i.e. Netscape; Internet Explorer by assigning a
unique number) for general system administration to serve you better
by diagnosing problems with our server."

- In the entire time you've been on the gallery mailing list, you've
gotten six, maybe eight, missives from Pentax Imaging talking about
their products, events, and etc, including advertisements.

- And now you're pissed off about what you signed up for.

Seems a bit ridiculous to call them "spammers". Giving your email
address to a company embarking on a promotional effort is indeed a
request for more information.

Unsubscribe if it annoys you that much. I just delete these things.
