Not so surprising to me - I've been very pleased with my copy. It blows away the kit lens and even surpasses my DA 16-45, especially in the corners. What *was* surprising is that when I recently tested my DA 17-70 against my old Sigma 18-125 DC, the Sigma was every bit as good in IQ, although the AF was slower and the distortion was slightly greater. I suspect I was lucky with my copy of the Sigma, though...
