Hi Igor: Unfortunately, Igor, I can't be much help to you. I've only owned
one photo dedicated printer--the R2880, so I can't offer any informed advice
that comes from comparison to other printers etc. I can say that I'm very
happy so far with this printer, but again, I don't have any experience with
other printers.
But I will say this: Think about how much you will be printing & the sizes
you want to print. The R2880 can print 13"x19" & has roll paper capability
for pano stuff. It can also print on canvas. If you print a lot of BW, the
R2880 is positioned as offering fine art quality: It uses a Light Light
Black, a Light Black & then either Photo or Matte black. A total of 8 ink
cartridges are in the printer at a time. I don't have any statistics for
ink usage & what-not. Godfrey, might be able to help you there.
If you plan to do a lot of printing, I'd get a printer, but if you're just
going to use it for the occasional print, maybe a lab would be better. This
Christmas, I'm doing a lot of prints for friends and family, and I just sold
my 1st set of 5 prints to a friend--my first sale! I didn't charge much
since it was a friend, but I made back overhead. :-). Also, I'm working on
a photo project at work, which requires a good quality printer, so the
printer is being used--and will continue to be used, since I have plans, lol
:-).
I've used Velvet Fine Art, Ultra Pres. Matte, Glossy, Semi-glossy, Luster, &
I've done a little bit of experimentation with other papers--MOAB, by Legion
paper. I mean to experiment with a lot more in future. I really like the
Velvet Fine Art Paper a lot.
I'm happy with the printer for both color & BW, but again, you have to
remember that I'm new to digital printing & I'm in the process of training
my eye & building my knowledge base for digital printing. I have a lot more
to learn about digital printing--but still, I'm not blind, and I like the
print results I'm getting far.
Good luck in your search. Cheers, Christine

Subject: question about Epson printers (R2800, R1900)
Hello!
I am again considering if I should buy a photo printer.
I see that R2400 got replaced by R2880, and I see that Christine
has been very happy with it.
Does anybody have R1900?
What is the difference from R2880?
I see that they are using different types of inks, but I am not
sure which one is better. If I understand corectly, R1900
is using one of the UltraChrome (High Gloss?) ink, -
I am not sure if it is somehow related to the inks used in 3800
(UltraChrome K3)
Also, I see that R1900 features
# Auto-switching Photo and Matte Black Ink
- the feature that 3800 also has.
I see that Godfrey had mentioned that every time you switch toner
manually you loose 5-6% of ink.
Is this the case with the auto-switching?
Thank you in advance for all suggestions and insights,
Igor
