This would have been really great if the guy's face was in focus.
It looks like you got his sleeve, instead, which just makes my eyes
ache trying to focus on his face.
I was focusing on his hands/shirt sleeve intentionally (they carry the
expression I wanted) and there's just not a lot of DoF at f/1.4 ...
Explanation: to my eye, if the finely detailed shirt sleeve in the
foreground was blurry, it would have killed the photo where my eye can
accept a little bit of blur at his face.
It's a tradeoff. I didn't feel comfortable at f/2 or 2.8 ... hand
holding 1/8 and 1/4 seconds is bad enough, but people move too much. I
could have popped up to ISO 1600 but that limits DR too much for the
rather severe lighting (there's a lot of selective area processing in
this one).
