Rob, I have two units and both function as you describe for tilting. While the build quality isn't superb, it does feel adequate. If you try out the wireless operations with the MZ-S, I think you will be happy. Note that the MZ-S can be set so the popup flash is just a controller and pressing the LCD illumination button can trigger the modeling light on the flash. I am pleased with the features.
