Hi Frantisek,

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate the protection afforded to the barrel by 
a hood that flares, my A50/1.4 and A50/1.2 wear them permanently and they have 
saved each for damage more than once :-)

I have the square plastic clip on hoods for the A28/2 and A24/2.8 and really 
from my experience they are more hassle than they are worth in that they do pop 
off quite easily and they do often end up rotating in the heat of the action. 
However for the the lengths that I mentioned I will retain them.

I expect that a circular hood trimmed to a length (get them turned on a lathe) 
which is just before it vignettes will provide very good flare protection and 
still be quite small. I would like to be able to cap the lens with the hood 
fitted as though the hoods are a permanent fixture hence the interest in the 
metal Heliopans.
