The reddish halo is real, but insignificant. It is an artifact of the JPEG 8bit sRGB rendering and doesn't appear on the original or in TIFF 16bit output. It's probably the gamut hitting an odd boundary on the way from 16bit ProPhoto RGB onto 8bit sRGB along with the scaling.
