I don't really have a strong preference for one over the other.  If I
had to choose - probably #2.

I've tried similar shots from time to time and have never been all that
happy with the results.  I always feel that there *should* be something
artistic there but I can never seem to extract art from the jumble.  I
think you've done well and the lack of shadows probably helps but the
lighting does seem a bit flat as a result.  Dare I say a little boost to
the mid tones.....
