Joe, I have an FA* 80-200 F2.8 lens. It weighs about 1.5 Kg also, and it is hand-holdable. I have used it to get sharp images of birds in flight at 200mm, so I'd guess that the Sigma lens would also be hand-holdable as well. Make sure you use a fast shutter speed, though!
