Steve and Daphney's comments have me interested in finding a copy of
this lens. Are there any differences in the construction or optical
qualities between the K and the A series? The A has a more updated
coating, right?

Hi, Shel.
I also own this beast. I must admit I use my M 50 1.7 much more because
it's A LOT more lightweight and compact, and inexpensive.
But the K 1.2 is a beauty beast. Superb build quality (as you know, a K
series landmark), focusing is fantastic, the aperture ring has a great
feeling (I own two K's, the 50 and a 17, and both are far superior in
feeling to M and A series. The difference in aperture ring is very
noticeable).
It's a huge (380 g) piece of pure glass, and looks cool in a LX. I like the
pics obtained with it, and don't find it soft as some people here found it.
Ok, maybe you can note 15 or 20 lpmm of resolution difference in test
charts compared to 1.7, but it doesn't count to me, specially when you use
it in low light with fast film. And the nil dof at 1.2 is great to focus.
I suppose the A has better coatings, but it has A construction and doesn't
look as fine as a K series lens imho.
Buy one K and enjoy it
