It does, doesn't it! :-)
If that kind of crystal is allowed some further growth, it will sprout
hexagonal patterns of the end-plates of the reel. This sometimes
results in beautiful 12-armed crystals like Mark Cassino has captured
here:

Those are extremely hard to photograph properly because usually
there's not enough DOF to get both sets of arms in focus at the same
time. Mark C. rules! :-)
