Hmmm...after a few years of working with slideshow software, I
finally switched over to video editing software.  I found that it
could do everything I needed for slideshows, especially the time line
editing and such.  I would think that long term, slide show software
would finally die out except for some very simple stuff, simply
because the tools for still and video are largely the same.

So, for what it is worth, for the Mac you could always look at Adobe
Premier Elements.
